Two of Sir Peter Blake’s most famous yachts, Steinlager II and Lion New Zealand, will be showcased this year at the Auckland On Water Boat Show which will take place September 27-30 in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbor.
With a wide variety of boats of all sizes on the water and on land around the Viaduct Events Center, Steinlager II and Lion New Zealand will be key attractions for the thousands of boating enthusiasts expected at the only on-water boat show in ‘Auckland.
Thanks to the NZ Sailing Trust, which now owns these two Peter Blake yachts, the public can climb aboard and explore these iconic and historic racing yachts.
Steinlager II, a maxi-ketch, won the 1989-90 round-the-world race and, under trust leadership, is preparing to compete in the 31st 119 nautical mile race from Auckland to Russell Coastal Classic in October.
In addition to being regularly raced by trusted members and paying customers, Steinlager II and Lion New Zealand are used by the NZ Sailing Trust for a variety of youth and school programs, as well as in-company training and private charters.
As Ash Taylor, CEO of the trust, says, the purpose of the trust is to keep these legendary boats in New Zealand. “Both yachts have a fantastic ‘New Zealand’ story behind them and through trust we are able to share this story with the hundreds of people who come to sail with us; many are sailing for the first time and we love to share this experience with them. ‘
The Auckland On Water Boat Show, formerly the Auckland International Boat Show, features over 200 exhibitors who will fill the Viaduct Events Center and three other pavilions with a wide range of marine products and services.
Owned and managed by the New Zealand Marine Industry Association, Show Director Michelle Khan says, “Boating enthusiasts are sure to find leading experts ready to share their knowledge and passion for boating. pleasure.
“Whether you are an experienced boater or just thinking of venturing into a new activity on the water, this event offers you the perfect opportunity to learn more about that product or service you need to be ready for. your summer fun on the water. The “Ask the Expert” seminars supported by Boating New Zealand magazine provide further opportunities to hear from naval experts. The free seminars take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on level 2 of the Viaduct Events Center.
Topics include Getting to Love Your Diesel Engine from Whiting Power, the latest Lowrance electronics and the new Furuno TZ Touch navigation system from Electronic Navigation Ltd, yacht rentals as a family vacation option from The Moorings and the Weather Expert.
